Today, (Wednesday 14 January), we received a fantastic donation of £500 from John and Julie Steventon. John and Julie were due to travel to The Gambia early in 2014. However, John suffered a health setback and was unwell. So they cancelled their trip. Fortunately, the couple, from Corby in Northamptonshire, were able to join us on the trip in December 2014. Julie had been to Penyem before, however, this was John’s first visit. John was so impressed by our work and was humbled by the kindness and generosity of the Penyem villagers, he felt the urge to write the following words:
NTF trip to The Gambia 9th – 16th December 2014
‘I have had a most memorable and enjoyable week.
Everyday brought an amazing new experience with the highlight being the visit to the village of Penyem.
Their welcome was very special; they seem to have so little but give everything, especially their warm smiles. Now I have the chance to do something. I hope that this will be the first of many more visits to come’.
The £500 will be used for medicines and equipment for the village Healh Centre. Thank you on behalf of the villagers of Penyem.
